Senior Software Engineer (m/w/d) – Network Flow & Traffic Intelligence (DE)

[16424]

We are currently looking for a freelance "Senior Software Engineer (m/w/d) – Network Flow & Traffic Intelligence" for our client in the Informationstechnologie / Information Technology sector. Start: asap End: 14.09.2027 Capacity: fulltime Location: Remote Role Overview: We are building a next-generation Network Flow Intelligence Platform that delivers real-time visibility into network traffic for enterprises operating complex, multi-site infrastructure. The platform ingests, enriches, and analyzes high-volume telemetry data from NetFlow v5/v9, sFlow, and IPFIX sources across thousands of network devices, enabling network operations teams to detect anomalies, identify bandwidth consumers, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and enforce traffic policies at scale. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will take end-to-end ownership of Traffic Insight modules — from high-throughput flow collection pipelines and protocol-specific parsers through to enrichment engines, analytics APIs, and real-time dashboards. You will work alongside network architects, data engineers, and product managers to push the boundaries of what enterprise network observability can achieve. Key Responsibilities: ·Design and implement high-throughput collectors and protocol decoders for NetFlow v5/v9, sFlow, and IPFIX telemetry data ingested from multi-site enterprise network infrastructure. ·Build and maintain flow enrichment pipelines that correlate raw flow records with CMDB, IP-to-AS mapping (BGP), GeoIP, VLAN, and application classification data. ·Develop real-time analytics and aggregation engines capable of processing millions of flow records per second with sub-second query latency. ·Create scalable REST and GraphQL APIs to expose traffic insights, trend data, and alerting thresholds to downstream consumers and dashboards. ·Integrate with time-series and columnar data stores (ClickHouse, InfluxDB, Apache Druid) for long-term flow retention, roll-ups, and historical analysis. ·Implement anomaly-detection and traffic-baselining algorithms to identify deviations in application, site, or user traffic patterns. ·Collaborate with network engineers to validate flow accuracy, debug protocol discrepancies across vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto), and certify new device onboarding. ·Contribute to the design of multi-tenant architecture, ensuring data isolation and role-based access for enterprise customers with hundreds of network sites. ·Champion engineering best practices through code reviews, technical documentation, and participation in architectural decision records (ADRs). Qualifications & Experience ·Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline. ·Hands-on experience with UDP/TCP socket programming, binary protocol parsing, and high-throughput data ingestion pipelines. ·Demonstrable experience in a production environment handling NetFlow, sFlow, or IPFIX at enterprise scale. ·Familiarity with networking fundamentals: OSI model, IP routing, BGP/AS paths, VLAN tagging, QoS markings (DSCP), and NAT traversal as they affect flow records. ·Proven track record of shipping reliable, observable, and maintainable backend services in distributed environments.
